Dominique Weller is a passionate advocate for mental and behavioral health, dedicated to supporting related causes, raising awareness, and expanding knowledge in this crucial field. With a strong educational background and diverse professional experiences, Dominique is poised to make a significant impact in mental health and community support.
Dominique earned her Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Science, concentrating in Family Studies and Human Development, from California State University, Sacramento. She graduated magna cum laude in May 2024, consistently achieving high academic honors, including being named to the Dean’s Honor List for multiple semesters. Her coursework covered a wide range of topics, including adolescent development, family communication, and family support services, equipping her with a comprehensive understanding of the dynamics within families and communities. In addition to her degree from CSU Sacramento, Dominique was recognized as a President’s Scholar in Spring 2022 during her time at San Jose State University. Her combined studies of business and education provided her with essential skills in economics, financial accounting, and stress management, further enhancing her ability to approach mental health from a multifaceted perspective.
Dominique's professional journey includes a role as a Peer Counselor at California State University, Sacramento, where she provided individual and group counseling sessions, collaborated with the Martin Luther King Center to promote mental health resources, and received training in basic counseling skills and suicide prevention. Her internship at WellPlace Psychotherapy allowed her to gain hands-on experience in a clinical setting, where she was trained in HIPAA practices, managed therapy templates, and improved clinic documentation processes.
Her commitment to community service is evident through her volunteer work at the UC Davis Early Childhood Laboratory, where she promoted healthy development for young children and their families. She dedicated over 50 hours to volunteering, identifying and addressing needs to enhance the educational and care experience at the center.
Dominique also brings legislative experience from her ongoing role as a Research and Legislative Intern at Deveau Burr Group. Since February 2020, she has tracked bills, supported staff, and engaged in outreach and advocacy efforts at the State Capitol, developing her skills in organization, advocacy, and professional relationship building.
Her academic projects reflect her dedication to advancing mental health and education. Dominique organized a comprehensive research proposal on barriers to marriage counseling in California and designed a curriculum project focused on contraception and STD education for high school freshmen.
Dominique is known for her initiative, writing skills, organizational prowess, and strong interpersonal skills. She has co-facilitated groups, hosted workshops, and promoted peer counseling services on campus.
